Angela MaganaAngela Magana and Stephanie Eggink were originally scheduled to meet at XFC 23 in April, however, shortly before the fight was to take place, something unforeseen happened, derailing those plans. On her way to shoot a segment for a documentary, Magana and members of the film crew were involved in a car crash, which not only postponed her bout with Eggink, but also had permanent consequences for one of her travelling companions. “On the way there, some guy ran me off the road and flipped my car five times,” said Magana. “I ended up slipping into a coma. I woke up and was in the hospital for about 10 days. “The producer of the film, Becky, lost part of her thumb and she was in the hospital for a month and a half because they were trying to save it. It was pretty horrendous.” Magana (11-5) had previously been seriously injured, which also put her fight career on hold, so when it happened a second time, it would be understandable if she decided to not fight anymore. But that’s not who Magana is. “People around me were telling me I should probably not do it, but hell no (I never thought of quitting),” she told MMAWeekly.com. “Seven years ago, I fell a little over three stories and the doctors told me I’d never fight again and that I was lucky to be walking, but five weeks out of my body cast, I was fighting. I’m a fighter. I always have been and always will be, and I think I have years of fighting ahead of me.” Mangana’s first step back comes this Friday, when she gets her long awaited match with Eggink (3-1) at XFC 25 in Albuquerque, N.M., for the promotion’s 115-pound championship. “I feel like I’m pretty well-rounded and I have like a pit-bull style and throw hard from the get-go,” said Magana. “I guess (Eggink is) a boxer, but from what I’ve seen, her boxing wasn’t great, and her ground was almost a bit better from what I saw. “It’s hard to say, but if anybody looked at my record they would say I would take her down and submit her and I’m pretty sure that’s how it’s going to go.” Having survived another potentially career-ending and life-threatening situation, Magana doesn’t sacrifice the now for the future, and intends to live in the moment, both in her personal life and in her fighting career from here on out. “I’ll just train and fight and do what the XFC asks of me,” she said. “I’m so busy being a mother and being a part of my community and taking care of my household that I don’t know anything else. I live in the moment and try not to put too much weight into anything else. “I trained my ass off and I’m just going to go in there and leave it all in the cage. I’m just going to go in there, be myself and it will be Fight of the Night.” Be sure to Like MMAWeekly.com on Facebook and Follow @MMAWeeklycom on Twitter.
